“John's understanding of music, culture and creativity has been important to Phantasy for many years, and his ability to translate the work of the label and our artists into words has been invaluable. I could talk endlessly with him about music and our shared interests.”

Erol Alkan. Founder & Creative Director, Phantasy Sound.

"John is consistently a pleasure to collaborate with. His expertise in language and understanding of film has been an integral part of our work with producers and filmmakers at the International Co-Production Market since 2017."

Martina Bleis. Manager - Official Projects, Berlinale Co-Production Market

“When working on a new product, it is always convenient to be able to tap into John's knowledge of electronic music culture and history. He is able to get to grips with new markets and audiences quickly and always brings versatility to his copy.”

Liam Ashton, Product Marketing Manager, Loopcloud (The Beatport Group)

“Working with John is amazing! His ability to distil the essence of a film into compelling synopses is of great value not only to our work but also to the film teams we work with. Having an external set of eyes look at and present the film has become essential in promoting the film for its world premiere - and well after that. If you're looking for an on-point film synopsis, John is the writer to turn to.”

Mirjam Wiekenkamp. Founder, Noise PR.

I’m a freelance writer, journalist, consultant, broadcaster and creative based in Berlin. Born in the North-West of England, I have been based in the German capital since 2015, where I have continually built on over fifteen years of work at the intersection of music, film and technology.

From a commercial perspective, I specialise in copy that communicates innovative ideas and cultural shifts to a wider audience, without diluting their key philosophies. I have worked extensively with Loopmasters, the prolific sample pack and music technology company that is part of the wider Beatport Group, diversifying the culture and product with the collaboration of musicians and manufacturers internationally, creating bespoke emails, press releases and website content.

Specialising in alternative electronic music, I have written the biographies of DJs, producers and musicians including Peggy Gou, Daniel Avery, Palms Trax and Gabrielle Kwarteng, as well as copy for hundreds of albums, singles and festivals for a fluid network spanning underground, DIY labels to household names in music culture, in genres including experimental, house, techno and indie rock.

As a journalist, I previously documented club culture weekly in the UK for The Guardian’s weekend supplement ‘The Guide’, as well as writing features and interviews for print and digital publications including Time Out, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Vice, Easyjet Magazine, Bandcamp Daily and CRACK, the latter of which I continue to contribute to, with my first cover feature due in early 2024.

Since 2017 I have been the Native Language Consultant for the Berlinale International Co-Production Market, an annual, five-day event for producers, sales agents and distributors within the independent film industry. Having previously served as the event’s Catalogue Editor, the role also created opportunities for myself to work with other PR and communications companies on promotional copy for a diverse portfolio of films premiering at significant festivals including Cannes, Locarno and RIFF.

Incorporating copywriting and feature work, I also act as an in-house creative lead at Phantasy Sound, the London label founded by DJ and producer Erol Alkan, and undertake a similar role at CWPT, a label founded by Palms Trax in 2021. Working with new and established artists and alongside distributors PR and other brands, I strategise campaigns, helping maintain and progress the ethos of each label across radio, streaming and through coordinated social media copy.

DJing as John Loveless, I have curated and mixed two compilations for Phantasy, ‘A Psychedelic Sensibility’ and ‘A Psychedelic Sensibility II: The Remixes’. I maintain two radio residences in Berlin, ‘Display Resolution’ on Cashmere Radio and ‘Hot Concept’ on Refuge Worldwide, aligned with my own independent label of the same name. Remixing and creating original productions with my collaborator Gramrcy, our original track ‘Highdive’ was released in 2022 and soundtracked fashion shows by both Moschino and Hugo Boss.

As a writer, I am always seeking new artists, brands and agencies to collaborate with or consult on compelling communication campaigns, biography features and commercial copy. As a DJ and enthusiast, I am equally looking for new music to play in clubs and on radio, as well as anything fresh to watch or read.
