Released on Psssh Records - May 2023.

Following three well-received transmissions from label founder Dauwd, as well as remixes from Huerta, DJ Plead and JD Twitch, Psssh makes space for a friend and ally; Zadeh.

Born in Iran and now based in New York, this wildly talented producer and graphic designer takes Psssh in a suitably esoteric and always physical direction, presenting five sublime tracks that emerge from an intersection between not only personal histories, but wider dance music culture. Taking inspiration from the unwieldy cadence of Principe Records, legendary Turkish percussionist Okay Temiz and the pure club luster of Dance Mania, Zadeh’s debut sonic collage is a dream for open-minded dancers and DJs.

Rooted firmly in the modern club context, lead track ‘Payam’ showcases Zadeh’s intuition for rhythm, a tightly-wound beat then unfurling into a scaled melody, not without a hint of Detroit techno’s timeless futurism. Scattered with snatches of human voices, it reflects Zadeh’s daily jaunts around NYC, where his eyes are drawn to street typography, stretched fonts covered in graffiti and stickers.

In contrast, ‘Koobideh’ is somehow more relentless, yet distinctly personal, its powerful tempo and lethal drums offset by the visceral, even whimsical flourishes of instrumentation that weaves throughout the Lori, Kurdish and Turkish folk music of Zadeh’s childhood. In keeping with a dance music tradition, as well as his own production process, ‘Koobideh’ is reinterpreted as a stripped-back tool under the title of ‘Koobkookbideh’, while both tracks are also presented as spacious dub versions, tried-and- tested by Dauwd and Maryisonacid at their African Acid Is The Future party, where Zadeh has recently performed.
