Who is the chameleonic Roman Flugel? Inspired producer, endlessly versatile DJ, ambient voyager, house raconteur? Crossing unexpected streams of electronic music culture and reinvigorating his artistic persona, again and again, with enviable ease. Now, after thirty years of confounding expectations, Flugel’s latest project sees the Darmstadt-born, Berlin-based producer find freedom in one explicit mode: Techno.

Performed live, Tracks On Delivery taps into the energy of Flugel’s formative, wide-eyed days and nights as a DJ, a decade of relentless evolution spanning from Sven Vath’s notorious Omen club in Frankfurt, to Andrew Weatherall’s panel-beating Blood Sugar parties in London, driven by the unexpected Detroit-Germanic sound liberating youth culture across reunified Germany. Initially founded on the Ongaku Musik label in 2000, the Tracks on Delivery series encapsulated techno at its functional finest: sleek, hypnotic and exemplified by Flugel’s lifelong willingness to push his productions toward notably stranger sonic landscapes.

Already premiered and rapturously received on home turf at the cultishly adored Nachtdigital, as well as Craig Richards’ lovingly curated Houghton in the UK, Tracks On Delivery sees Flugel reinterpret and rearrange elements of the twenty-plus ‘patterns’ that make up the back catalogue of the project. Far from timestamped in a bygone rave era, the head-spinning performance also dives directly into the contemporary Tracks On Delivery that Flugel has since released for Radioslave’s beloved Rekids imprint, complimenting the 2020 triple-vinyl reissue of the original project.

In revisiting a prolific period in order to keep imagining the future, seamlessly bouncing between minimal and maximal modes, the project remains inspired, as Flugel puts it, by “inspiration, chaos and will power”. For audiences under the spell of a humble master, Tracks on Delivery collapses eras and expectations for a timeless dance.
